Local director, Jenna Kelly brings a unique and modern interpretation of the play Daughters to The Dark Room from 3rd – 6th October. Daughters is a play made up of 9 female monologues, each exploring aspects of teenage life. Written in the 80’s by award winning writer Maya Levy, Daughters still speaks relevant today. The text explores themes of self-judgement, addiction, power, and relationships. Each character battling life in her unique way.

But there is a twist. Kelly has cast young men to perform these ‘female’ monologues to challenge gender norms and to explore a human experience through a different lens. “We are all human. But for the majority of us, whether right or wrong, the gender society see us as has shaped our experiences - sometimes hugely,” says Kelly. “In our fight for equality I feel we are neglecting to tell young men it’s ok to be feminine, to be gentle, to cry and to be vulnerable.”

Jenna has kindly given us Two Double Passes to give away to the Opening Night on Wednesday October 3rd.

The competition closes at midnight on Tuesday 25th September 2018 and the winners will be announced on Wednesday. We will contact you by email and/or phone so make sure you include both with your entry. Only one entry per person. Good luck!
